Mineral Body Wrap and Infrared
Posted by Andrea on Jun 3, 2012 in Blog, Mineral Body Wrap | 0 commentsI had a great question today from Lin and since I get asked the question all of the time, I thought maybe many of you are wondering the same thing……
“Hi Andrea, you are the best in the wrap industry! I was wondering if the mineral wrap can be combined with the infrared blanket? How does work? Can mineral body wrap be a lay down wrap? Thanks million! Lin”
Hi Lin. Thank you so much for the nice compliment…you made my day! Excellent question and one I get all of the time. The answer is yes and no…so let me explain. I am not sure what brand of mineral wrap you are using, but the way you want to use a mineral wrap and explain to your clients is this… by using the elastic bandages that are soaked in the mineral solution, you are actually giving them an all over ‘body patch’ …. much like how a birth control patch or nicotine patch works (transdermally, which means absorbed through the skin). By doing so, you do NOT want the client to heat up or sweat as that is counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve with the minerals. If you wrap your client in the mineral solution soaked bandages and then allow them to ‘heat up’ in the infrared, this often confuses the client because you are telling them that the mineral wrap is a NON-dehydration wrap and whatever they lose in the wrap is not due to water loss.
Since I get a lot of clients that do not like to move in the active wrap or I have many people who have back problems or other ailments and I know the minerals would be beneficial to them….This is how I handle this. YES you can make the mineral body wrap a relaxation wrap, but make sure you are not HEATING your client up to sweat and only keep them warm if using the infrared (very low setting). And remember you are trying to get the minerals to soak into the skin, and infrared actually penetrates the skin to 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep and pushes out the impurities. What I prefer to do is put my client in the infrared for about 30-45 minutes in the infrared (with nothing on the skin!), then allow them to use the restroom so their body cools just a bit and then wrap them in the mineral wrap. Now after sweating, the body really needs “a drink” and I have found the results to be excellent!
I prefer to use a clay/aloe type of wrap if I am using the infrared as clay acts like a poultice and draws things out, which is great with the infrared since the infrared is also helping to push things out!
One last thing…if you are laying them down for the wrap, it is best to have your massage bed or chaise lounge on a bit of an incline and make sure your drop cloth they are wrapped in is placed in a tall kitchen garbage can to catch any excess solution during their wrap time (especially if you are saturating them with more mineral solution). This way they are not continually laying in a puddle and the excess is being caught in the can. Also makes for much easier clean up when they are done.
I hope this helps….I wish you much success!
